Made of solid mahogany and mahogany veneer, this desk features five drawers in three rows. Its back is decorated with simulated drawers, and each side is ingeniously furnished with pulls upholstered in Havana leather gilded with a small iron.
These side pulls allow the desk to be extended by over 70 cm in length.
This desk, with fluted uprights, rests on four fluted legs, adorned with gilt bronze rings and shoes, finished with fine casters.
Its top is upholstered in Havana leather gilded with a small iron in three parts and framed in solid mahogany.
Its design combines balanced proportions, purity of lines, and discreet richness of ornamentation, typical of Schey's work.
The gilt bronze ornamentation is concentrated solely on the rings, sabots, and lock escutcheons. The latter, decorated with finely chiseled intertwined laurel leaves, encircled by a pearl medallion, bring a touch of prestigious elegance to this desk.
Louis XVI period work attributed to Fidelys Schey (master in 1777)
His production was highly appreciated by the Parisian nobility and high society. It is particularly distinguished by the quality of the choice of precious woods (here solid mahogany and veneer), remarkable care in the finishes such as the balance of each volume, and fine bronzes delicately chiseled and used sparingly.
