Pair of Marble Wings

Carved in white marble, this finely executed pair of wings depicts stylized plumage arranged in overlapping layers, suggesting movement and lightness. The sculptor paid particular attention to the articulation of the feathers, with incised lines emphasizing texture and volume. The soft wear along the edges and traces of surface patina attest to their age and use. Though small in scale, the wings are highly decorative.
