Carrara marble sculpture depicting a child distressed at having broken his porcelain cup. Direct carving in a statue-quality marble, demonstrating great mastery of execution, created by Pietro Bernasconi (Milanese school 1826/1912). Overall in good condition, with some small losses (tip of the spoon, edge of the drapery), hands and face intact. On the base, signed Pietro Bernasconi, located and dated Milano 1874. Trained by Vincenzo Vela, Pietro Bernasconi exhibited at the Royal Academy in London in 1875 as well as at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1878; some works by this sculptor are held at the Duomo Museum (Milan Cathedral).
