Bronze statue on a pedestal, representing the Three Graces, signed on the terrace: F. BARBEDIENNE Founder and Colas Reduction Stamp.
This statue exists in marble at the Louvre, Room 214.
The same bronze statue was sold at Christie's on April 8, 2021,
for $18,750.
The Three Graces, by Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892), bronze group with brown and gold patina, based on the funerary monument of Henri II by Germain Pilon.
On a triangular bronze pedestal, with Latin inscriptions on two sides,
the base inscribed: F. BARBEDIENNE, FONDEUR, and stamped Réduction de Colas.
Germain PILON
Germain Pilon (1528–1590) was one of the most important sculptors of the Renaissance in France, along with Jean Goujon (1510–1567). He participated in the creation of the tombs of the last Valois and created the recumbent statues of Henry II and Catherine de Medici in the Basilica of Saint-Denis.
Our statue measures 85 cm in height and weighs 32 kg.
It is in excellent condition.
