Sèvres Manufactory, circa 1785
Diameter of saucer: 5¼ in. (13.3 cm)
Marks: Gilt interlaced L’s (for Sèvres, circa 1785), incised “41” to both pieces
This elegant Sèvres hard-paste porcelain cup and saucer set is richly decorated with black-ground oblong hexagonal panels, each centered with paired gilt cornucopia tied with ribbons — symbols of abundance and prosperity. These are bordered with mauve bands edged in blue and gold, painted with stylized vine motifs. A gilt vine with berried branches runs along the rim of each piece, providing a refined and continuous framing element.
The interior of the saucer and upper edge of the cup feature a radiating medallion design combining mauve, blue, and gold — evoking the neoclassical taste for order, harmony, and symbolic ornament.
