Orange crowned interlaced L’s mark; painter’s mark for Louis-Gabriel Chulot; gilder’s mark for Jean Chauvaux le jeune on both the bowl and the stand.
The cover finial formed as a pomegranate, the bowl and stand with interlaced, pierced leaf handles. Each element is decorated with two gilt kidney-shaped reserves enclosing finely painted still-life scenes on ledges:
– the écuelle depicts allegories of Summer and Fall,
– the cover shows Young Love,
– the stand presents Mature Love.
The reserves are connected by gilded garlands issuing from harebells and suspended from nail-heads.
The interior is scattered with pink roses.
Painter: Louis-Gabriel Chulot, active 1755–1800, known for trophies, floral and ornamental motifs.
Gilder: Jean Chauvaux le jeune, active 1764–1800, a skilled gilder of elaborate Rococo and Neoclassical borders.
