Based on the sculptures at Place des Victoires in Paris,
this work represents King Louis XIV on horseback, embodying the ideal of majesty and power associated with his reign.
Created in accordance with my great public statues of the XVII? century, it is inspired in particular by the famous monument commissioned by Marshal de La Feuillade and sculpted by Martin Desjardins.
The statue is presented on a wooden base
ommissioned by Marshal de La Feuillade and sculpted by Martin Desjardins, the original statue featured Louis XIV in Roman costume, crowned by Renommée, towering over a group of chained prisoners symbolizing his military victories.
This monumental work, embodying the ideal of the triumphant king and monarchic glory, was destroyed during the French Revolution.
The present model takes up the essence of royal iconography: the sovereign is represented mounted on a prancing horse, in a posture of domination and solemnity, faithful to the codes of French classicism of the late XVII? century.
