This view of Venice depicts one of the most fascinating places in the city, where the Cannaregio canal branches off from the Grand Canal and is crossed by the famous Ponte delle Guglie, so called due to the presence of four obelisks arranged on its sides.
On the left side, at the intersection of the two canals, stands the church of San Geremia with the sanctuary of Santa Lucia. Further ahead, directly on the waters of the canal, Palazzo Labia overlooks which houses a true treasure of works of art, with the long medieval bell tower next to it.
It is a splendid work signed by the Piedmontese Giuseppe Riva (Ivrea 1834-1916), who stood out at the end of the 19th century for his lively city views, particularly of the cities of Milan and Venice as well as for the depiction of the most significant ones of the Lombardy capitals.
The "Venice" that we propose here is undoubtedly one of his most successful creations both for the confident and precise brushwork and for the lively and bright chromaticism, with a perfect choice of shades capable of excellently describing a gray day with glimpses of great effect light.
