About 1875

One can recognize in Arthur Calame's landscapes both the influence of his father Alexandre, and the more northern influence of Oswald Achenbach, who was his master at the academy of Düsseldorf.
But if his father favored mountain subjects, lakes, and tree studies, Arthur produced mainly views of Venice and southern coastal landscapes (Côte d'Azur, Ligurian coast, Amalfi coast), as well as some views of the Breton and Basque coasts. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1874 to 1897.
