Pair of geminate capitals in Languedoc marble, 15th century

A pair of geminate capitals, carved in a superb block of red marble from Languedoc, also called Caunes marble. This marble, extracted around Caunes-Minervois, was exploited during Antiquity and the Middle Ages for the manufacture of columns and capitals, with a revival of interest in the classical period, thus serving to decorate the marble Trianon at Versailles and the Invalides.
One is decorated with leaves and acorns of oak, extending under the cornice between the two capitals, and the other with water leaves.
