Pieter Roestraeten was a Dutch Golden Age painter of still lifes and genre scenes.
Arnold Houbraken claims that Roestraeten became acquainted with Peter Lely, a portrait artist in London. Lely introduced him to the court of Charles II, but on one condition, apparently apprehensive of competition, that Van Roestraeten would give up portraiture. He became a skilled still life painter, especially acclaimed for his depiction of silver objects.
