Large armchair “à la Reine” that belonged to Sarah Bernhardt

Armchair à la Reine in beech wood with carved decoration of shells and foliage motifs on a background of braces, caned seat and backrest, armrests with dark leather cuffs. the legs are in console and end in inverted volutes. They are connected by an X spacer.

Parisian work from the Regency period.

Provenance: sale at the Drouot hotel following the succession of Mrs. Sarah Bernhardt, Wednesday June 13, 1923 under the ministries of Me Lair-Dubreuil and Me André Benoist. No. 360.

The armchair has kept with it the documents relating to this sale, namely the catalog and a letter from the hand of its purchaser.
