A beautiful bronze patinated seated naked statue of Hermes Mercury by Jean Marie PIGALLE (1792-1857).
Provenance : This statue was presented as a gift to Baron and Baronet in 1901 on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. Please look at the last photo.
The Greek god Hermes (the Roman Mercury ) was the god of translators and interpreters. He was the most clever of the Olympian gods, and served as messenger for all the other gods. He ruled over wealth, good fortune, commerce, fertility, and thievery.
