18th century French school, portrait of Louis Joseph of France first dauphin. Oil on canvas in a Louis XVI style gilt wood frame.
Our portrait shows the elder son of Louis XVIth and Marie Antoinette who died at the age of 8 in 1789. The young prince is presented in his intimacy (probably Marie Antoinette's hamlet), making soap bubble, allegory of the fragility of life.
In excellent condition, on its original canvas. the painting and the frame were cleaned and restored.
