17th & 18th centuries Furniture and Statuary
Beautiful Virgin and Child carved in the round from the end of the 16th century.
The Virgin is represented standing, slightly swaying, carrying the infant Jesus on her left arm.
She is wearing a long dress and a coat with "sgraffiato" polychromy.
Virgo has a pretty face with soft features. She is wearing a veil. Her wavy hair is topped with a charming little knot.
The baby Jesus holds the terrestrial globe in his left hand. Its infant features add to the softness of this statuary group from the late Italian Renaissance.
Period late 16th century
