17th & 18th centuries Furniture and Statuary
Large octagonal wall plaque, polychrome Nevers faience, dated 1767 and signed lower right P.G.R (possibly the initials of the master potter or a workshop mark). Within an architectural setting are depicted the Virgin and Child surrounded by Saint Anthony the Great and Saint Bernard holding the chained devil at his feet.
For this design, the potter drew inspiration from a 16th-century oil painting by Giuseppe Porta, known as "Il Salviati," which was part of an altarpiece in the Dandollo Chapel, San Francesco della Vigna, Venice.
The composition is entirely identical in structure, the poses of the figures, and the details (see attached photo – ref /fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giuseppe_Porta)
