The inscription in perfectly readable Uncial script indicates that the insignia is linked to the cult of the shirt of our Lady from the Aachen cathedral (one of the oldest cathedrals in Europe).

A little mirror was insert in the back to reflect the shirt of our Lady and could then keep the power of the relic for the pilgrim.
