Fine 17th-century corpus of Christ carved in boxwood, displaying exceptional craftsmanship and strong Baroque expressiveness. The figure is characterized by a beautifully articulated anatomy, with subtly defined musculature that powerfully conveys both physical suffering and spiritual surrender at the moment of the Crucifixion.
The head, gently inclined, reveals a deeply moving expression: parted lips, uplifted eyes, and finely carved hair and beard enhance the emotional and devotional impact of the sculpture. The perizonium, delicately knotted around the waist, is rendered with elegant, flowing folds that add rhythm and balance to the overall composition.
The use of boxwood, a dense and noble material, allowed for extremely fine carving, particularly evident in the hands, feet, and torso.
The corpus is well preserved, showing two small, old restorations to the fingers, discreet and fully consistent with the age and devotional history of the piece.
A high-quality and evocative sculpture, combining technical refinement with profound spiritual presence, exemplary of European religious sculpture of the 17th century.
