Exceptional Régence period (1715-1723) trumeau mirror, 18th century

Rare trumeau on three carved wooden panels gilded with gold leaf on a lacquered background, decorated with a large mercury mirror and an oil on canvas.

It presents a rich rococo molded and sculpted decoration of exceptional quality. In particular, in high relief, a powerful shell, an exploded grenade as well as two howling chimeras resting on foliage scrolls.
The mercury mirror, in two parts, very large for the period, is highlighted by a frame of ribbon bundles.
Superb decoration of foliage, gadroons and staples.

This set is completed by an allegorical oil on canvas from the Louis XV period depicting the three ages of virtue in the form of a child, a teenager and a young woman. The young woman, clasped at the waist by her fiance, holds by a wire a bird out of his cage, symbol of virginity ready to fly. The sunset, the meal started, participate in this symbolism.

Three wood panels.

Entirely parqueted with oak.

CONDITIONS REPORT:

The gilding and the lacquer of the trumeau were the subject of a restoration-conservation by a craftsman having notably restored the woodwork of the salons of the Hôtel La Rivière at the Musée CARNAVALET, the woodwork of the Baron Hope bedroom in the MUSÉE DES ARTS DÉCORATIFS in Paris, the Cabinet des Jeux at the CHÂTEAU DE VAUX-LE-VICOMTE, as well as rooms for the CHÂTEAU DE CHANTILLY, the MOBILIER NATIONAL or the King of Morocco.

Considering the extraordinary quality of its sculpture, the size of its mirror and the beauty of its ornementation, this trumeau alone illustrates the beauty of the exceptional orders of the high aristocracy in the first half of the 18th century.
