Beautiful gilded frame of the XIXth century

The image of the face of Archangel Gabriel announcing the Event to the Virgin is here produced with technical refinement and a stylistic elegance that is difficult to find.

It is a work done by a safe and light hand probably ordered for private use and therefore particularly pleasant and easy to place.

Vivid colors with strong chiaroscuro and delicate undertones bring out the protagonist's complexion and can be appreciated in all their beauty thanks to the magnificent condition of the paintwork.

It is clearly a work that has all the characteristics of the most beautiful Emilian school of the seventeenth century, in particular of Elisabetta Sirani, daughter of art, excellent interpreter of the inimitable style of Guido Reni.

Elisabetta was the first of four children of Giovanni Andrea Sirani, successful Bolognese painter, first assistant to Guido Reni and art dealer.

Already at the age of 17, he received important commissions and produced beautiful portraits for the noble families of Bolognese.

She soon surpassed her father, opened her own shop and her fame, although very young, reached Rome, where she became a professor at the Academy of San Luca.

The short life of this great artist is a true novel.

The "Announcement of the Angel" is one of a series of paintings that Sirani has created with particularly successful depictions of this magnificent subject. Among the different variants, this is the one that is most successful.

The very fine features of the face of the Archangel Gabriel, represented in profile, are characteristic of his great mastery of the female portrait.

Its representations of historical, mythological and religious figures, in which the protagonists are always beautiful women, are considered among the most elegant and refined of baroque painting of the 17th century.
