An elegant and impressive French decorative vase from the second half of the 19th century, crafted in deep cobalt blue porcelain and richly embellished with finely worked gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts.
The ovoid porcelain body is adorned with a delicate garland of gilt-bronze flowers, including finely modelled roses and blossoms. Spectacular openwork handles composed of scrolling foliage and fanciful ornamental motifs elegantly frame the vase on either side.
The neck is surrounded by a richly cast foliate border, while the lower body is embraced by gilt-bronze acanthus leaves. The vase rises on a finely decorated socle and an architectural gilt-bronze base.
The striking contrast between the rich, lustrous cobalt blue porcelain and the warm gilding gives the vase a particularly luxurious and elegant appearance.
A fine example of French Napoleon III decorative arts, drawing inspiration from the classical and Louis XVI ornamental vocabulary of the 18th century.
