Oval, multi-lobed Meissen porcelain plate attributed to Christian Friedrich Herold. The central design features a polychrome harbor scene (Kauffahrtei), framed by a rich rocaille pattern accented with gold. These detailed miniatures were very popular in the 18th century (circa 1730–1740). Marked with crossed blue swords. Dimensions: 3x16x21 cm.
Christian Friedrich Herold (1700–1779), a renowned porcelain painter who worked in Meissen beginning in the 1720s, spent more than fifty years decorating luxury pieces with seascape scenes (Kauffahrtei) and chinoiserie motifs.
