An elegant portrait of a woman titled “Woman from Biskra,” depicting a woman gazing at her reflection in a hand mirror. An Art Deco-era work featuring beautiful colors. Oil on panel in perfect condition. Signed “Em. Gaudissard” in the lower right corner. Perfect condition. In its original frame. Labels on the reverse and signature.
A painter, sculptor, and interior architect, Émile Gaudissart enjoyed great success during the Art Deco period in France as well as internationally, particularly in Algeria.
In 1924, he created the murals for the new Le Bon Marché department store
He was also a master upholsterer and decorator. He designed the carpets for the ocean liner Normandie in 1933.

He participated in several major exhibitions during his lifetime, notably the 1900 World’s Fair, the 1906 and 1922 Colonial Exhibitions in Marseille, and the 1925 Decorative Arts Exhibition
where he presented designs for rugs and tapestries for the collector Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann, as well as rugs for the salon of the Hôtel du Collectionneur, produced by the Aubusson factory. And in 1935, an exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts in Algiers.
