Louis Marie Désiré-Lucas (1869-1949) Villefranche sur mer (circa 1925-1930 Oil on canvas signed and dated lower left 73x60cm Provenances: Galerie Saluden, Quimper Private collection Louis-Marie Désiré-Lucas, born October 15, 1869 in Fort-de-France (Martinique) and died September 29, 1949 in Douarnenez was a French painter and lithographer. In 1889, he received a scholarship from the city of Brest, enabling him to enter the Académie Julian. He was then admitted to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1893, he exhibited at the Salon des artistes français. He settled in Vannes and set out to reproduce scenes of Breton life. He eventually left Vannes for Belz, then, charmed by the location, settled in Ploaré in 1907. He was mobilized to Amiens during the First World War. In 1920, he began working on the coastlines and landscapes of the Côte d'Azur, Spain, Italy and Belle-Ile-en-Mer. Désiré-Lucas was awarded an honorary medal at the 1936 Salon. He was elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1943.
