This important pair of armchairs was made in Venice during the Barocchetto period, around the mid-18th century. The structure is in finely carved and gilt wood. Each armchair features a shaped backrest with a sinuous profile enriched by soft rocaille scrolls and a crest rail with a shell motif. The design is typical of Venetian Barocchetto: a wide and comfortable seat, with a shaped and richly carved front rail.
Notable is the carved decoration on the front panels, framing the central rocaille element and creating an elegant basket-like motif, highly refined and decorative.
The shaped armrests, ending in scrolls, are enveloping and seamlessly connect the back uprights with the seat. The curved and arched legs terminate in scrolled feet with shell motifs.
The seat and backrest are upholstered in red velvet with floral patterns, later but in good usable condition.
These armchairs are ideal for reception rooms or studies, and thanks to their proportions, are also perfect as conversation seating or placed beside a fireplace, in both historic and contemporary interiors.
