Lacquered wooden tray with chinoiserie decoration
Venice, 18th century
72 x 46 cm
Mixtilinear border decorated with lanceolate leaves and flowers in green, red, and white.
Central scene in oriental style: two figures and a dog stroll through the courtyard of a large building, watched by a third person on a balcony. Behind the balcony is a blossoming cherry tree on which a colorful parrot sits.
Below, a duck takes flight from a pond.
These lacquered wooden trays, or those decorated in Arte Povera style, were a typical Venetian production of the mid-18th century and reveal an exquisitely European aesthetic sensibility in the reinterpretation of Asian models.
The state of preservation of ours is considered very good and consistent with the antiquity of the piece; The original patina is intact and gives the piece an unparalleled historical charm, while the slight, natural wear of the lacquer attests to its authenticity and noble provenance.
The work, like all our other items, will be sold with a certificate of authenticity.
