Decor of Cupids – Signed L.C. Rochette – 19th century
A highly decorative pair of covered vases in enamelled porcelain, richly mounted in finely chased gilt bronze. The bodies are adorned with charming painted scenes depicting cupids (putti) in pastoral landscapes, executed with finesse in a delicate palette.
The painted reserves are signed L.C. Rochette, a decorative artist active in the 19th century. The domed covers, with a deep blue ground, are decorated with scrolling motifs and gilding in the spirit of porcelains from the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres.
The gilt bronze mounts, finely chased with friezes, acanthus leaves, and gadroons, elegantly enhance the baluster forms of the vases. The finials in the shape of stylised seeds and the square bases with blue ground complete the decorative harmony of the ensemble.
A Sèvres mark is present under the base.
