Joseph Paul MESLÉ (1855-1927) Chamigny, the hamlet of Larrue at dusk (circa 1900) oil on canvas signed lower right 58x80cm large frame and period stuccoed and gilded wood 84x107cm (craquelures from use) cleaned and restored by our workshop Joseph Paul Meslé (1855-1927)Born January 25, 1855 in Saint-Servan, near Saint-Malo, his talent for drawing was so obviouswere so obvious that the young boy was referred to the École desBeaux-arts de Rennes.In 1875, Meslé left for the Beaux-Arts in Paris with a letter ofrecommendation from Jean François Millet (1814-1875), a brilliant, hard-working andhard-working, conscientious student, in participated in the 1880 Salon. Ten years later heleave the French Artists to join, in 1892, Rodin, Puvis dChavannes, the splittists of the Société nationale des Beaux-Arts. Meslésettled in Reins in 1881-1882, and quickly became a renowned portrait painter.In 1890, he married Yacinthe Bremontier. They moved to Jaulgonnealong the Marne river, between Dormans and Château-Thierry, a few kilometreskilometers from his colleague Léon Lhermitte (1844-1925).In 1896, the couple moved to Chamigny.
