Louise Thuillier (1831–1917) Pastoral Scene, Oil on canvas signed lower left 69x101.5cm (period gilded wood frame, 91x125cm) re-stretched The daughter of painter Pierre Thuillier (1799–1858), she was a student of Louis Etienne Watelet and Théodore Gudin. Following in her father’s footsteps, she produced numerous landscapes and scenes of North Africa, and later landscapes of Brittany and the area around Cherbourg, where she lived from 1847 onward. She exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1847 and was awarded a third-class medal there. Many of the artist’s works are held in public collections primarily at the Cherbourg Museum, but also at: Crozatier Museum, Le Puy-en-Velay Museum of Art and Archaeology, Senlis Museum of Fine Arts and David-d’Angers Gallery, Angers Toulon Museum,
