Small alcove clock in brass and gilt bronze from the Louis XV period, Signe

A very fine wall clock veneered with brass leaf and adorned with finely chased and gilded bronze.

The case, with its elegant and architectural lines, is richly decorated with gilt bronze featuring friezes of egg-and-dart motifs, pearls, and stylized foliage. It opens at the front with a glazed door revealing the dial. The glazed sides also offer a clear view of the mechanism, highlighting the overall quality of the craftsmanship.
The circular gilt brass dial, finely chased with scrolls, palmettes, and foliage, features twelve scrolling cartouches in white enamel with blue Roman numerals indicating the hours.
The circular rim is engraved with numerals indicating the minutes. At the bottom, a white enamel cartouche is signed "F. H. Duchesne à Paris" and framed in gilt bronze with a laurel wreath entwined at the bottom by two leafy branches.

The gilt-bronze ornamentation is particularly refined and elegant. The top of the pediment is adorned with an elegant, foliate tripod vase, its feet decorated with animal hooves.

The brass plating alternates between smooth and finely hammered with a geometric pattern.

The lower part of the pediment is highlighted by an egg-and-dart frieze and a beaded frieze.
The console features an openwork gilt-bronze decoration, with a large stylized fan-shaped shell at the center, enhanced with various foliage and scrolls.
The front uprights are gilt-bronze with a decoration of large leaves and join a foliate base encircled by a frieze of small flowers. The rear uprights and the frieze are decorated with beaded friezes and egg-and-dart motifs.

The movement, also signed "Francs H. Duchesne Paris," is accessible via a rear door.

Repeating chime.

A fine Parisian piece from the Louis XV period, signed by Duchesne, with its original gilding.
