Pair of large bouquets of flowers by Philippe de Marlier (c. 1573-1668)

A pair of large oil paintings on canvas depicting vases of flowers on ledges, accompanied by small insects.

These canvases were originally set into wood paneling, hence their scalloped shape.

Circle of Philippe de Marlier.

Philippe de Marlier, born around 1573 and died in 1668 in Antwerp, was a Flemish painter of the Baroque period. He is known for his still lifes faithfully depicting flowers and fruit.
He is also known for his oil paintings, often depicting religious devotion (saints, Madonnas surrounded by flowers or garlands of flowers and fruit (currants)), where one can sometimes discern insects (butterflies, etc.) or snails, as was frequently the case in Dutch still lifes of the period and subsequent eras.

Good condition.

Old restorations (relining for one of them).

Height: 186 cm for one and 185.6 cm for the other.
Width: 106.8 cm for one and 110.4 cm for the other.
