Furniture and Decorative arts
Geometric decor vase signed Roger Capron.
Roger Capron (1922–2006) was a French ceramist. He received numerous awards and still enjoys great renown today. Passionate about ceramics, he explored this medium in various ways. He modernized the traditional curves of Provençal pottery, developed mass production, became interested in decorative tiles, and later in sculpture.
Roger Capron studied at the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris until 1943. He developed a strong interest in ceramics and decided to open his own workshop in Vallauris with Robert Picault, followed by Jean Derval. He was one of the artists who contributed to the revival of the golden age of ceramics in Vallauris. Later, in 1952, he opened a factory employing around fifteen workers. He received numerous awards in Milan, Cannes, and Brussels, and in 1970 won the International Grand Prize for Ceramics. The factory closed in 1982. Roger Capron’s works are now held in many art galleries around the world.
