Scene From Bacchanalia - Giulio Carpioni (1613-1678)

Giuilio Carpioni of Venetian origin finds his inspiration in classicism, influenced by Nicolas Poussin whom he would have met at the beginning of his career.
The bacchanalia are for him a major subject of inspiration which recur very frequently in his work.
The use of acid colors and the "expressionist" character of these figures is a way out of the sometimes too conventional style of mid-17th century Italian painting.
Most museums like the Louvre have paintings by Carpioni: its originality, this very special sensitivity help to make it unmissable.
