Canopic jar lid with the head of Amset, a human-headed figure representing the son of Horus. This lid protected the liver of the deceased.
Amset wears a tripartite wig, leaving his ears uncovered; the false beard is short and striated. The eyes and eyebrows are finely sculpted. The short beard and wig are painted light blue, the eyes and eyebrows black. The irises are marked in red. The face and ears are painted yellow.
Egypt, Middle Kingdom, 12th Dynasty, 1985-1773 BC.
Polychrome limestone.
