This baluster-shaped lamp is described as monumental due to its exceptional dimensions. Its powdered blue colour results from a technique that appeared during the reign of Kangxi (1662–1722), consisting of blowing cobalt blue directly onto the body of the piece through a bamboo tube fitted at the end with gauze. This process produces a sprinkling of small, more or less dark speckles and gives the surface a slightly iridescent appearance.
The jar is mounted on a gilt-bronze base added at a later date. The lamp has been electrified. We present it with a simple lampshade so that clients may choose the colour and shape according to their preference; the shade does not justify additional shipping costs.
