A finely carved Corpus Christi sculpted in solid boxwood, mounted on a black metal display stand. The figure is rendered with remarkable anatomical precision and expressive detail, reflecting the devotional intensity characteristic of religious sculpture.
The Christ is depicted with outstretched arms, his slender body subtly contorted, emphasizing both physical suffering and spiritual serenity. The finely carved musculature, the delicate treatment of the ribcage and abdomen, and the elegantly draped perizoma tied at the hip demonstrate the sculptor’s technical mastery. Particular attention has been given to the expressive face, framed by flowing locks and a carefully detailed beard.
The warm patina of the boxwood enhances the depth of carving and highlights the natural beauty of the material. Visible joints at the shoulders and a central seam on the reverse indicate traditional carving techniques, typical of devotional works intended for private chapels or ecclesiastical settings.
Probably Flemish work, 17th century.
Presented on a custom stand for display.
Condition: Good overall condition with age-related wear and minor shrinkage cracks consistent with the material. Small damage to the nose and an old restoration to the fingers.
