A rare and elegant bronze candlestick from the Low Countries, dating to the late 15th century.
The slender shaft is articulated by a series of characteristic knops (baluster rings), typical of late medieval Netherlandish metalwork. The cylindrical socket is pierced with a rectangular aperture, allowing for the adjustment or removal of candle stubs. It stands on a wide, flared base composed of a circular drip pan above a truncated conical foot, providing both stability and visual balance.
The harmonious proportions, restrained decoration, and fine aged patina reflect the refined yet functional aesthetic of the late Gothic period. Candlesticks of this type were used in both domestic and ecclesiastical settings.
In very good condition, with wear and patina consistent with age.
An authentic and scarce example of late medieval bronze craftsmanship from the Low Countries.
