Jean-François Marie Bellier (1745–1836), portrait and landscape painter, received royal commissions under the Ancien Régime. He served as painter to Queen Marie-Antoinette and completed the decoration of the carriage used by Louis XVI on the day of his coronation. He also worked on the execution of the Louvre ceilings with Barthélémy. State portraits signed by him are known from the Directoire and Empire periods.
On the stretcher, in ink: “Berthier commissaire général… à la gare… commune de Dory… bureau restant” and “fragil”.
