This polychrome glazed ceramic by Delphin Massier, created circa 1890, depicts a duck accompanied by its ducklings in a naturalistic scene filled with gentleness and movement. The adult duck, placed at the center of the composition, stands out for the precision of its modeling and the quality of the glazes, with subtle shades of green, blue, and ochre. The treatment of the base and the lively presence of the ducklings enhance the sense of animation throughout the piece. Standing 56 cm high, this work reflects the craftsmanship of the Massier workshops in Vallauris and the artist’s interest in animal-themed decorative ceramics at the end of the 19th century.
