19th & 20th century decorative arts.
Framed bronze fire-perfume tripod, resting on three slender uprights joined by a circular spacer. The upper container, of flared circular shape, is underlined by molded friezes and rinses of ancient inspiration.
The three supports take the form of ancient-treated bearded male heads, anthropomorphic busts extending into stylized arms, and fantastic animals assimilable to griffons or dragons, forming hands and bonding elements. The feet end with clawed legs resting on circular bases, reinforcing the archaic and monumental appearance of the whole.
By its quality of cast iron, the precision of the chisel and the sophistication of the patinas, this tripod can be compared to the neo-ancient productions of major Parisian houses and workshops such as Barbedienne, Christofle, Reiber or Ferdinand Levillain, which developed in the years 1860-1900 perfume burners, candelabras and vases of ancient inspiration, often presented at the Universal Exhibitions.
