An impressive Corpus Christi carved in boxwood, attributable to an Italian workshop of the 17th century. The figure of Christ is depicted with raised arms and a slender, slightly twisted body, powerfully conveying the dramatic intensity and spiritual pathos characteristic of the Baroque period.
The anatomical rendering is highly accomplished, with finely modelled musculature, pronounced ribcage, and elongated legs. The expressive face, with parted lips and half-closed eyes, conveys suffering and transcendence. The carefully carved flowing hair and beard demonstrate exceptional sculptural skill.
The perizoma is carved with softly cascading, asymmetrical folds, enhancing the sense of movement and naturalism. The surface retains a warm, rich patina, consistent with age and devotional use. Original mounting holes to the hands and feet indicate that the figure was originally affixed to a crucifix (now absent).
