Rare Indo-Portuguese mortar carved from a single block of ivory, dating from the 17th century. Of cylindrical form with a finely turned stepped base, it displays a warm honey-coloured patina and natural striations typical of early ivory.
The interior shows clear signs of use, reflecting its original function. An old, stable crack consistent with the age of the material attests to the authenticity of this fine Indo-Portuguese object.
