This elegant set of four Chinese famille rose sprinklers dates to the Qianlong period (1736–1795). Each is delicately potted with a pear-shaped body rising from a slightly flaring foot to a long, slender neck, creating a refined and well-balanced silhouette. The white ground is richly enamelled in vibrant famille rose colours with large peony blooms among scrolling foliage, scattered blossoms and auspicious objects, all executed with great precision and a lively sense of movement.
The harmonious palette of pinks, iron-red, blue, yellow and green, together with the fine quality of the porcelain and enamelling, is characteristic of the high standards achieved in the imperial kilns during the mid-18th century. Sets of sprinklers of this type were valued both in China and in the West for their delicate form and luxurious decoration.
