E. Villanis (1858–1914) – Nymphe

This refined Carrara marble bust, signed E. Villanis, depicts Nymphe — a subject that reflects Emmanuel Villanis’ signature fascination with idealised, poetic femininity. Villanis (1858–1914) was one of the most celebrated sculptors of the late 19th and early 20th century, renowned for his expressive female figures characterised by serene gazes, fluid contours and a subtle Art Nouveau sensibility.

In this work, the softly modelled features and upward, contemplative expression rise from an organic base shaped like stylised waves, creating a harmonious dialogue between form, movement and light. Carved from luminous Carrara marble, Nymphe showcases Villanis’ exceptional craftsmanship and his ability to merge naturalistic detail with graceful abstraction.
Dimensions: 55 × 32 × 23 cm.
