Louis-Robert CARRIER-BELLEUSE (1848–1913)
for the Choisy-le-Roi Manufacture
Pair of fine earthenware baluster vases – circa 1890
An elegant pair of fine earthenware baluster vases with rich polychrome and relief decoration. Against a luminous beige-blue background unfold allegorical compositions of draped female figures surrounded by putti, floral garlands, and delicately modelled scrolls. The subtle palette – cream, celadon blue, and soft green – blends in perfect harmony, highlighting the virtuosity of the modelling and the graceful rhythm of the figures.
Each vase displays refined ornamentation: friezes of palmettes, floral garlands in light relief, and stylized mascarons. The ensemble perfectly exemplifies the neoclassical taste and the decorative refinement characteristic of the Choisy-le-Roi production at the end of the 19th century.
Choisy-le-Roi mark under each vase
Signature of Louis-Robert Carrier-Belleuse on the body
