A magnificent pair of solid silver centerpieces by Van Kempen & Begeer, superbly modelled in naturalistic style. Each piece features a finely chased stag and doe amidst richly detailed foliage and flowers, set on a rocky base supporting a vine-entwined stem that rises to a detachable cut crystal bowl with a scalloped rim.
Dated 1858.
The bases are decorated with exuberant repoussé silverwork of oak leaves and acorns, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship and sculptural quality for which Van Kempen & Begeer were renowned.
Comparable examples of Van Kempen & Begeer’s silver masterpieces are held in major Dutch collections, including the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, and Museum Het Valkhof, Nijmegen.
