Eglomisé glass: A decorative technique consisting of gilding and painting the reverse of a glass plate to create a luminous design when viewed through its transparency. Rediscovered in the 18th century by the Parisian framer Jean-Baptiste Glomy, this technique was widely used under the Empire and under the restoration for frames, mirrors and luxury objects.
