Like a theatrical set or a fairytale illustration, these pine trees form a dreamlike world around a pond.The texture of the rocks, the pine bark, the reflection of daylight filtering through the needles—all these elements recall the illustrations of Russian folktales that made Ivan Bilibin famous.
But the choice of colors and the vigor of the brushstrokes suggest that the work is most likely attributed to the Swedish master Fritz Lindström.At the same time, this way of depicting nature is quite characteristic of the Pont-Aven painters.
Our painting, acquired in Sweden, retains its mysterious power of attraction for the time being
