A blue and white porcelain spittoon (or ‘cuspidor’ from the Portuguese) with floral decoration. Kangxi period. It was used domestically for spitting after smoking tobacco or consuming snuff and was also exported to Europe. Decoration of blossoming prunus and little twigs. Elegantly flared rim. As these objects were made for practical purposes and because of their unappetizing content, not many of them have survived the centuries.
Minute rim frittings one small chip to the rim. No cracks.
Height: 8 cm, diameter 12 cm.
