Louis-Robert CARRIER-BELLEUSE (1848–1913) for the Choisy-le-Roi manufactory
Elegant baluster-shaped vase in fine earthenware, richly decorated in polychrome relief. Against a deep blue background unfolds an allegorical scene depicting Night carried away by Day, where draped female figures are lifted by winged cupids amid garlands of flowers, foliage, palmettes, and scrolling motifs.
The refined modeling and harmonious colors demonstrate Carrier-Belleuse’s artistic mastery and the sophisticated craftsmanship of Choisy-le-Roi’s late 19th-century production.
Marks: Choisy-le-Roi in black, numbered 1601 7 18 incised.
Circa 1890.
Height: 53 cm.
A vase of the same model, signed by Louis-Robert Carrier-Belleuse on the foot, was sold at public auction (Ader Auction House, Paris, January 29, 2021, lot 86).
